This year, I decided to make a zine about sign painting. A how to zine, spiced up with a bit of folklore and what not.
The title of the zine is "How to Paint Signs & Influence People" titled after the self help book that my parents had in their library.
The first issue is all about the Egyptian lettering style. It gives many examples of this style from the last century, as well as instruction to the basics of hand lettering.
A must have for the extreme novice in sign painting, and a good laugh for the experienced sign writer.

DUDE! A new typeface from Lost Type
A few months ago I got a phone call from the guys over at Lost Type. They wanted me to collaborate with them on a new typeface project involving a western font they were making. They liked the Stereo Classics collage & stop motion video that I made, which had used a number of fonts they had created.
So I got to designing and working out a collage and look that would suit the needs of a super slab serif font like dude, along with the western theme that I know all to well (my dad was a Rodeo cowboy growing up, hence why my name is Colt) Here Dan Gneiding, the creator of Dude, talks a little bit about his inspiration for the font:
And finally, the finished product stop motion animation that I did for Lost Type:
Check out more of the Lost Type Faces and such at www.LostType.com
And a sneek peek at the type specimen book soon to come:

Dear world, I love my wife SOOOOOOO much! She is a babe. Totaly awesome too! Recently she has let me know that it is time to get back into skateboarding. It always seems to be in the fall here in Utah when the weather starts getting cold... just when you start to miss the warm days, you start wanting to make the most of it outdoors. Well, I totally agree with her and also want to get back in the swing of things!
Looks like I'll have to start doing some yoga or stretching more.. because I'm still a little sore from skating last week!

This weekend me and the wifey came down to Los Angeles to visit the Yo Gabba Gabba Filming studios, super rad, super fun as always. We are getting to work on an episode for season 4, so we came down to get excited and get inspired. So far things have been going great and it was just what we needed. Especially after finishing a big project.. time to move on to another. So tonight we went for a visit over to Mr. Joel Fox's for a lil' bit of birthday celebration and craft makin. If you have ever seen the kid's show, Joel is in charge of the rad special effects, as well as the segment between segments where kids ride along the screen on mashup-toys. So we worked on some of those. Good times, good times.
Happy Birthday Joel Fox!

This week was full of conquering gigantic tasks.. My Mom ran her first marathon at age 54, which was incredible! As for me, I conquered the beast of a sign that has been being procrasticnated for many weeks now. Finally on thursday I settled it and went full fleged all day long.. and thankfully it turned out great! Here are some shots of it and a little time lapse I put together of the project >>

SLUG
I was asked to make the cover for this months issue of S.L.U.G magazine out of Salt Lake City.
Cut out lot's of paper, sewed it up then drew the fine lettering out with a very small tipped pen.
If your in Salt Lake this month, pick up a copy, and frame it! It might be the only time you get my art printed for free!
